I went to Juniata College as an undergrad and we had something like this -
but it was called a Program of Emphasis (POE). I was able to develop a
major in Biopsychology and also sort of minor in Medieval History. There
were relatively few classes that everyone had to take (English Comp our
freshman year, a multidisciplinary history course, and then a Senior
capstone course. The capstone was a good idea because all majors took that
class - my senior seminar course is modeled off of that very class (which
probably would shock the daylights out of the prof who taught that course).
I fully understand the idea of everyone being separated from each other.
The Psych dept here is really removed from the rest of the campus (we are
at least 3-4 blocks away from the rest of the campus). While it is quiet
and I don't have the parking issues that other do, I miss being part of the
college campus.
