The author makes several disparaging statements about the process by which Wake Forest Unniversity chose to go with its "test-optional" policy. A friend teaches at WFU and his description to me of the process at WFU is consistent with the description in this article.

The psychology department was never informed about the potential switch to a test-optional policy. None of the department psychometricians were asked to comment on the validity of use of the SAT prior to announcement of the policy. Members of the psychology department have worked very hard to explain to the administration that much of what came out in the WFU press release was just plain wrong.

An interestingly article (long but worth it) about the politics and culture of the SAT.
