Michael Donnelly asked about looking up when trying to remember
something.

I would suggest to Michael that this may be more of a strategy for
attention/focusing.  For example, I think of the children in the
national spelling bee; with the exception of those who are "writing on
their hand or in the air" most of them will look up.  Well, it is
inappropriate to close their eyes, but by looking up they can eliminate
some of that distraction and focus on the task at hand.
