Consider the following quote from the SPE entry on Wikipedia:
|Haslam and Reicher | |Alex Haslam and Steve Reicher (2003), psychologists from the |University of Exeter and University of St Andrews, conducted |the BBC Prison Study[7], a partial replication of the experiment |with the assistance of the BBC, who broadcast scenes from the |study in a documentary program called The Experiment. Their results |and conclusions differed from Zimbardo's and led to a number of |publications on tyranny, stress and leadership (moreover, unlike |results from the SPE, these were published in leading academic |journals; e.g., British Journal of Social Psychology, Journal of Applied |Psychology, Social Psychology Quarterly). While their procedure |was not a direct replication of Zimbardo's, their study does cast |further doubt on the generality of his conclusions. Specifically, it |questions the notion that people slip mindlessly into role and the |idea that the dynamics of evil are in any way banal. Their research |also points to the importance of leadership in the emergence of |tyranny (of the form displayed by Zimbardo when briefing guards |in the Stanford experiment).[8][9] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment For more on the British version of the SPE, see: http://bbcprisonstudy.org/ Phil Z. was not amused by the BBC production and does not provide links to it on his website: http://www.prisonexp.org/links.htm . His criticisms about the BBC SPE were published in the British Journal of Social Psychology (2006) and the abstract is available on PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16573871 >Maybe I can suggest to Mike Palij that he has a TV show entitled >"In the Hood, after midnite". Actually, since I've very familiar with the East Village, it would be more all appropriate to have it done there though every day some form of reality seems to be taking place. All one needs to know is that in the movie "Men In Black 2", in the scene where incoming space aliens are being processed prior to getting access to NYC, one of the human TSO-type tells a strange looking alien "don't go out during daytime except for the East Village". However, I do have an idea for a reality show that we can all appreciate: Who Wants To Get Tenure? It would take place in NYC where a group of six or more assistant professors are in the sixth year of their contracts and they either are granted tenure or, according to AAUP rules, have to be released (with a the possibility of an additional year to locate a new job). The catch is that only one of the assistant professor can get tenure. What will they do get the Holy Grail of tenure and avoid the humiliation of "not being good enough" as well as having to find a new job and explain why they didn't get tenure elsewhere. Imagine the hilarity while listening to phone call like the following where each prof has to get a minimum number of publications for tenure: "I submitted that manuscript to you six months ago! WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU LOST THE REVIEWS!!!!!" Good stuff, good stuff, though I admit that this might appeal to only a selective segment of the viewing public. Then again, one could broaden this appeal, especially to the key demographic of males between 18-35 if the producers could get Victoria Zdrok, former porn star and who was in the joint JD-Ph.D. (clinical) program at Villanova University and Hahnemann Medical School. She could be shown teaching a class on human sexuality and identify which acts are legal/illegal in different parts of the U.S.. For more on Victoria, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Zdrok Her doctoral dissertation is listed on Dissertation Abstracts International and for a listing of her work in porn, see: http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfid=VictoriaZdrok/gender=f (NOTE: apparently her mom and sister are pretty hot and have appeared in nude pictorials with Victoria) For her post-Ph.D. work, just check out Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=victoria+zdrok&x=21&y=20 Careful with the sextoys. Anybody ready for a reality show that has some hot "Doc on Doc" action? >Send me and Stephen Black something.
