It appears that other cultures do quite a public display of welcoming their
fallen soldiers. In Britain those who get killed in wars get a parade and a
significant amount of public figures show up to honor their dead as heroes. In
Italy the whole village shows up to show respect and honor their fellow
citizens. In the U.S however, the tradition has always
been not to show the casket and the funerals do not emanate such a dignified
public honor.THis contrast and comparison may indicate differential attitudes
about death and dying.
I wonder what would the death and dying expert Elizabeth Kubla Khan say about
that.
