Michael Though all of this episode is unfortunate and I agree that the legal and moral issues should outweigh the creative, I think you unfairly categorize the defending of Polanski as "Hollywood". I've seen the petition going around on the internet that claims to have 100 elite signatories (and yes Mr Allen is one of them as is Scorsese, apparently) but there have been a flurry of interviews showing actors, directors, producers and others in the business and the industry who have the same opinion you expressed. So no, Hollywood does not support him. (Neither, btw, does it look like France and Poland are remaining in his corner. Both have released statements in the last day or so that distance them from the original statements of individual ministers who condemned the arrest and have stated that justice and law supersede other issues). Tim I do not agree with you that this is not psychology teaching. Now I will admitthat yout views and mine about teaching are different.Just as Obama says when it comes to Iran that all optionsare on the table,I hold the view that when it comes to teaching psychology, all topics are on the table. This of course differs from the eurocentric consensus. You know little is said of Polanski's jewishness. He is of course a French citizen and a Polish Jew-this is where my reference to the affinity variable support kicks in(Please Linda Woolf). You are correct that initial French and Polish support for him have waned. But given France's and Polish past anti=semitic history, maybe what one hand giveth, the other taketh away....eh! As the cross-cultural dude on Tips,I am curious as to Polanski's attractiveness to blondes.
