You may want to check out a four volume work by Melvin Marx on the history
of learning,learning processes,conditioning,and the transfer of
learning.Marx was a colleague of mine at Mizzou in the mid 70s.
His work on learning are really exhaustive.I suspect he was a contemporary
of Hilgaed,
Check it out. For Verbal Memory and Learning check out Don Kausler.Kausler
was also at Mizzou when I was there.
