Hi Don. I previously said: >Well, that sounds like a pretty safe bet. I doubt whether anyone can >reliably determine anything about your typical adult's early life >experiences by observing their current adult behavior.
To which Don responded: > Glad you agree with me that most typical childhood experiences (dacare, > divorce, etc.) will have little or no long term effect on the kids.... While I don't want to ruffle your feathers, my post doesn't imply agreement, only that I didn't think the effects of early childhood experiences could be reliably determined by observing current adult behavior. I don't think this is the same as saying that there are no effects, only that they could not be reliably inferred from current adult behavior. But I don't believe you can reliably determine the effects of ANY previous influence* on a particular person's development based on their current adult behavior---that's what I meant by saying it was a safe bet (i.e. one that you can't possibly loose). *Discounting the Genie type of experience which I would consider extreme, and of course, with such extreme influences (particularly in sensitive "window" periods) one can infer current adult behavioral issues such as inability to learn language. --Mike I don't know the literature well on this stuff but it does seem implausible to me --- To make changes to your subscription contact: Bill Southerly ([email protected])
