Hi All- I just stumbled upon an article in Science Daily that says: "From their very first days, newborns' cries already bear the mark of the language their parents speak, reveals a new study published online on November 5th in Current Biology, a Cell Press publication. The findings suggest that infants begin picking up elements of what will be their first language in the womb, and certainly long before their first babble or coo." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/11/091105092607.htm or http://tinyurl.com/yhg7ggb Unfortunately, our library does not have access to Current Biology so I was only able to read the abstract. Reading that, however, makes me feel that they didn't control for possible genetic predispositions to cry in a particular way. If anyone has access to this journal I would appreciate it if you could send me a copy of the article so I can examine it more carefully.
