It's just a transcription service. That's pretty old-fashioned really. It costs
$9.57 an hour (pretty cheap - I'm guessing they contract with people in 3rd
world countries).
Note taking services have been around forever. Most big universities have
professional local shops that hire students to take and turn in notes that are
then made available to student who buy them for a fee. When I was a grad
student at UCLA it was often the TAs who made a little money on the side by
turning in their notes. Of course many (most?) schools offer this service for
students who have a disability that prevents them from taking notes.

Being a student (with money) just got a whole lot easier:

The company says that their service allows you to concentrate on the lecture
rather that note taking. However, they also talk about how useful it is if you
miss lectures.

NoNotes.com is a student founded company who's goal is to improve the way
students throughout the world learn. Using NoNotes will allow you to focus on
learning while in class rather than having to focus your attention on taking
notes. Our company exists to simplify the learning process and our system is
based on the cognitive processes involved with learning.

As students we understand that endless writing, while simultaneously trying to
pay attention and absorb class subject

matter is ineffective. Our service allows you to sit back, learn, ask questions
and make the most of your class time. We provide you with a written copy of the
notes-making studying and content review simple and effective.

While I never had a problem when students wanted to tape my lectures I find
this trend a bit disconcerting, especially the translation option.

Your thoughts?
