I have always been grateful that our final exam policy here gives me a quick
out in such a case. All deviations from the printed final exam schedule must be
approved by the Dean so my response to that e-mail would be to send them to the
Dean. I have never had the Dean tell me (in my recollection) to give someone a
final at an alternative time.

Just got this:

Hi Bill,
I know our final is Saturday, December 12th however, I have a family wedding
December 10th. I was wondering if it would be possible to take the final before
December 10th? Maybe the 9th? I am so sorry for the inconvenience. My parents
just informed me about the wedding.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.

OK, Folks. We have a winner in the student chutzpah contest. Names have been
altered to protect the brazenly bumptious.

Dr. Pollak,

I am in your phy (sic) 100 class on Mondays. Is it possible that if I stop by
next week during your office hours, I can get have a copy of the next two exams
to have to study for the final?

Thanks,
