My daughter had the same experience. At two different programs in the NYC area, you were expected to have advanced skills in two instruments and would need to audition on those instruments before being considered for the program. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Our 30-year-old son was very interested in becoming a music therapist, but all the programs he looked at required what looked like advanced expertise in musical theory, instrumentation like piano, and other serious musical requirements. He's terrific on the guitar, and can read music, but really felt he couldn't fulfill the strict music theory requirements. He's getting an M.B.A. instead. Too bad.
