In response to the critique of Kinsey: I teach Human Sexuality, and although I certainly teach about the Kinsey reports from a historical standpoint, I do spend considerable time discussing both the strengths and weaknesses of his research. His interviewing technique was excellent; his sampling was disastrous. I would hope (and rather firmly believe) that anyone in this field would use the data from Laumann et al.'s work in discussing population statistics for any sexual acts (and possibly comparing that to Kinsey to see how sampling can make a HUGE difference). And even Laumann's study has some serious flaws since sometimes the participants were interviewed in the presence of other family members/spouses/etc.
As others have mentioned, although the Kinsey Institute bears Kinsey's name, I don't think their research bears much resemblance - other than still being about sexuality related issues.
