This info can be found at http://www.census.gov/, click on "E" for
"educational attainment".  

The following totals are from March 1998 and are for folks in the US 15
years old and over (209,291,000) rounded to the nearest thousand:

Bachelors degree:   30,090,000
Masters degree:      9,295,000
Professional degree: 2,586,000
Doctorate degree:    1,869,000

I'll let you calculate the percentages.  =)

(Btw, there are more people in the US with doctorates than there are
people in  New Mexico.)
