A student brought in a demonstration that yielded an effect I wasn't aware of,
and I was wondering if someone out there could offer any leads to information
related to it.

We looked at two squares of colored construction paper (a bright pink
and a moderately saturated green) through a stereoscope. The stereoscope
allowed the two images to be superimposed. The surprise to me was that the
colors appeared to blend to an intermediate color in the fused area. I could
see bands of the original colors to the outside of the fused and blended
region.

Maybe this is a well known and easily comprehended effect, but I couldn't see
an immediate explanation for the blending of the two hues in what must be some
post-retinal fashion.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Pat Cabe
