You "made the mistake of doing an Alta Vista search"??
Had you read the page fully, near the bottom (it used to be at the top
of the page) you would have seen:

World Wide Weird > Weirdest of the Web
AltaVista knows the answers to these questions:

Clicking on the link to Mythology & Folklore > Urban Legends would have
taken you to a page with links to 22 urban legend sites.
Clicking on the "Answer" button beside "Where can I learn about urban
legends?" would have taken you to:
http://www.urbanlegends.com/
