Hello all,
First, I want to thank all of you who responded to my post regarding the
aspartame misinformation...

2nd: I decided to include the aspartame e-mail in my Distance Education
General Psychology course. I posted the message to our discussion group and
'invited' (e.g. required) comment.
We had stressed the importance of skepticism at the beginning of the
semester. And the chapter we were covering that week (last week of class)
was the chapter on Cognition & Decision Making because I said that applying
the material we had learned in the semester, especially the material on
research methods and skepticism, was the most important lesson they could
learn from the course.
What happened? One or two students were uncertain about the post - they
were skeptical but not really sure why. One or two students were somewhat
panicked (e.g. "Is this serious?!? I drink several cans of the stuff a
day...!). And one or two students forwarded the information to family
members who had some health disorder that they thought might be related....
Apparently I need to model critical thinking more... time for more Diet
Dr. Pepper...

   Thanks for the help!
