I would recommend
_Ms. Mentor's Impeccable Advice for Women in Academia_ ,
by Emily Toth

Here is one of the reader reviews from amazon.com:

A reader from Georgia , September 24, 1998
Required reading! Do not miss!
As a beginning grad student who has been away from academia for several years, I found
this book not only a kick to read but full of refreshingly straightforward
information. I plan to follow Ms. Mentor's advice to the letter. But this isn't just a
guidebook for academia. Any woman (or man!) who wants succeed -- and survive -- as a
professional should read this book.

You might also consider
_Dissertations and Theses from Start to Finish : Psychology and Related Fields_,
by John D. Cone and Sharon L. Foster.
This is an APA Publication, but can also be bought at amazon.com. Another review from
that cite on this book:

Denver, Colorado , January 7, 1999
A friendly and well-written book
This book made the entire dissertation and thesis writing process clear and easy to
follow. It is well laid out, allowing the reader to construct their ideas in a logical
sequence, with one segment adding on to the next. I also enjoyed the honest
observations made by the authors, and this aspect gave me much needed insight as to
how to approach faculty and professors about my dissertation and thesis without
becoming a burden upon their time and resources. It's also a wonderful general guide
for people interested in how to plan, execute, and complete any scientific research. I
would highly recommend this book to any student who needs to strengthen their
knowledge base about the thesis and dissertation writing process.

I hope this was helpful!
