No empirical data have I; however, I think one of the contributing factors
to the length of messages is that some people insist on including every bit
(binary, that is) of every message to which they respond and sometimes I
have to scroll through many, many lines before I get to the new
information. Perhaps everyone could edit the messages they send to the
list to include only the most pertinent information. If your mail program
doesn't allow you to do that, there are excellent FREE mail programs that
do, Eudora and Pegasus to mention only two.
