Now I just know I'm going to get in trouble over this one, but the
devil makes me do it. Linda just suggested that we should
ignore the ethical views of Bertrand Russell because of his
questionable ethics concerning Negroes, Mike Scoles pointed out that
this is an ad hominem argument. I agree. Here's another way of looking
at it.

I seem to recall that Martin Luther King was found to have plagiarized
part of his Ph.D. thesis (someone, _please_ correct me if I'm wrong).  
Does this mean that this questionable lapse in ethics requires us to
ignore the rest of his pronouncements on ethics? Pushed to the limit,
this policy would even cause us to refuse to use computers because
they depend on the work of that notorious racist, Shockley, who
invented the transistor. 

But considering how much time I'm spending on my e-mail tonight, maybe
that's not such a bad idea after all.
