We have tried showing a video that is a dramatization of the Phineas Gage
incident, then discussing how psychologists with various perspectives might
address the situation. It sure gets them thinking about the limits and
recovery possibilities of the brain!
I have also have tried having them write down any word that they can think
of when they hear the word psychology. They then contribute words and I
create a "mind map" with the perspectives as my mental structure. (By the
way, they left out anything biological.)
