  Okay, here's something...
  
  Tsien at Princeton claims to have altered the memory hardware
  in mice by inserting a few extra genes.

  Hardware and software are complementary.  If the net result is
  better recall and recognition, along with a richer associational
  network, it IS memory improvement, regardless of the source.
  Think process rather than capacity.
