This worked out well for me: Divide the class into groups (maybe 3-8 students in each group). Assign each group one theory of motivation. Have them answer the following questions: 1) I was not feeling motivated to prepare my lecture for class today. According to your theory, why might that be? 2) According to your theory, how could my employer help to motivate me? 3) Do you think your theory provides a realistic explanation of my motivation, in other words, do you buy it? I used this in an I/O class, specific to work motivation, but it would probably be fine in an intro psych class too. The groups had fun answering the questions. During the next class I went over the answers and there was good discussion about the different theories, students were making connections between theories, and applying theories to life - hooray.
