As Ronald Reagan would say,"there you go again".
But corporal punishment may interact with this third variable to achieve
the desired results.Personally,volunteers may be honest,but even those
who do not volunteer in other cultures perhaps act that way because
of the suspiciousness of the experimenter's intent.
Please note that the rules of scientific study may differ in the
non-Eurocentric world.
