        You mean like public beheadings, chopping off a person's hand for theft,
stoning for adultry, public whippings for minor crimes, discrimination
against women, mutilation and death for homosexuality, etc.?

        Now why should any rational person think that things like _that_ are
inappropriate?

        In Saudi Arabia they may be appropriate values. In the US (where you
happen to teach, remember?) they are not.

        And beating a child or teaching him/her to fear you is one of those
values that does not belong here either.
