Beth & others, Years and years ago I had a wife who did the totally natural child birth thing, not even an aspirin. I recall that in discussions by the natural childbirth group it was often said, partly in jest I thought, "It is a good thing we forget just how severe the pain is. If we really remembered it, no woman would have more than one child." I paraphrase them, but accurately. These women were not given scopolamine. Many of them would have come off the table and beat the physician around the head and shoulders if he even suggested such a thing. Al Al L. The argument I'm making is that scopolamine use, in cases to which I was referring, is the ONLY drug used for "pain relief." (Or in those cases, as an "alternative" to pain relief.) I'd bet that Paul received other drugs, opiates, narcotics, etc., in addition to drugs such as scopolamine. As I posted earlier, scopolamine has its place pre-surgically and in other medical uses. In addition, to possibly forestall the "drug-free-childbirth" advocates, I'm a firm advocate too, but can recognize a persecutory plot against those who choose pain relief when I see it. {;-) Have we run a thread on TIPS about pain only being in the eye of the painee?? Maybe we can start one... Beth Benoit University of Massachusetts Lowell
