I just have to share this one. Perhaps it will not be funny to anyone
else - but right now I am pretty punchy from lack of sleep and it is
hilarious to me....

Over the years, I have done most of my research on pigeons and rats.
Recently, I have not had pigeons available, so it has pretty much been
rats...

So, early this morning I am revising a manuscript. I write the word
"pigeons" and the word processor underlines it as being spelled wrong.

This seems strange - it looks right to me - but I pretty tired (its
about 4:00 AM) and I ask it to make suggestions for the correct spelling.

The only suggestion it gives me?

"rats"

Baffled, I go on. A bit later, I need to write "pigeons" again. This
time, it does not simply underline the word. No - as soon as I space past
"pigeons" my omniscient word processor automatically changes the word to
"rats" - apparently the word processor does not want me writing about
pigeons, and in fact will not even let me do so!

Perhaps it knows something I do not?

I will really scream if this message to TIPS comes out with the word
"pigeons" replaced with "rats" - then it will be time to lock myself away
for a while....

P.S. On a serious note, does anyone know what would make a word processor
do this? I am using Word Perfect 7.0 on a Pentium machine. Up until now,
it has never misbehaved like this before....
