I _can't_ believe I beat Michael S. to the punch on this one! A talk
show host on radio station CFRB in Toronto just had a discussion on the
"Do you want to become a millionaire?" show with Regis Philbin (an hour
or so ago). According to the discussion, the producers of the
millionaire show were concerned that there was a preponderance of white
males doing well on the show. To remedy this, the producers are making
the questions easier, and hope to encourage more diversity this way. I
did not catch the source of the story - but according to what I heard
the story has been confirmed by the show's producers. As you can
imagine, it generated a flurry of calls. The most interesting call came
from a woman who claimed the gender difference would decrease if the top
prize was a billion dollars, not a million. The talk show host suggested
there should be separate shows for men and women. What's the moral of
this story? The wheel goes round and round - but nothing really changes?
