Okay, here's some more details... hopefully this message won't take 17
hours to get to the list and back to me like the last one...

I fully intended to put a statement about double-dipping on my syllabus
this semester. In fact, I really thought I had, but after looking at it
again I realized I left it off. (It will be there for the Spring.)

The course I teach (experimental design) is a prereq for the other course,
so the double-dipping between the courses shouldn't occur (at least not on
my end). But this student appears to have gotten special approval to take
both courses concurrently. Of course, this raises the issue about why the
prereq if it keeps getting waived for people, but that's another story for
another day.

I will be going to other professor today to "discuss" the double-dipping
issue. Since I did not explain the double-dipping issue to my students, I
won't be penalizing the student... the low quality of the paper is doing
that already. But, as others have pointed out, if the other professor does
have a policy on double-dipping, then he needs to know. I'm going to first
approach it as a "what-if" type scenario to see if he does have a policy
against it, and go from there.

Thanks to everyone for the help and guidance on this one. I pretty much
knew the answer, but it was the lack of a stated policy on my syllabus and
the student's rights that held me back.

Take care,
- Marc
