I'm sure someone else will supply the specific references, but sugar's
behavioral effect is sedative. No doubleblind study has shown a stimulant
effect.
Of course, you must be certain that the donuts do not contain artifical
coloring, which _has_ been shown (in a very small number of cases) to have
behavioral effects.
In the case of soft drinks, of course, you have to first rule out caffein.
