Student apathy is probably related to two factors. Learned helplessness or
general neutrality related to the status quo. Neutrality or apathy
(relative to your interest or concerns) is a reasonable prediction from
Correlational Opponent Processing. Learned helplessness is only a relative
adaptation.

My model of Correlational Opponent Processing is available at
http://turn.to/ai It is interesting to note that
this unifies Richard Solomons learning ideas of Opponent Process to Martin
Seligman's Learned Helplessness. Resistance or phenomenological collective
weight of one's theoretical past is difficult to overcome. It is important
to note the real past is not that strong because of the way the brain forms
oscillons or perceptrons of memory. This means that there is hope to turn
the student's interest in your direction.

Subject: Student Apathy

TIPS Members,

I have been asked to chair a campus committee exploring student apathy.

I would like to ask if anyone has experience with such a committee, but
especially, if anyone has knowledge of research exploring factors affecting
student apathy on university campuses.

It is early registration this week , and there is very little free time to
spend researching info, so I am hoping that I may be able to capitalize on
others' experience.

You could reply personally to me. I would greatly appreciate it.
