Position Announcement
The James Madison University School of Psychology is seeking applicants
for a new, one-year faculty position starting August, 2000, primarily to
teach our unique course in the Science of Vision and Audition. This
course is part of a package of courses students can complete to fulfill
Math and Science General Education requirements. Students selecting this
package will first complete a math course, and a course in the Physics of
Light and Sound. The psychology course concludes the package with an
overview of the methods of investigation in the study of sensation and
perception, neuroanatomy, visual-perceptual phenomena (e.g. color vision,
object perception, perceptual illusions), auditory-perceptual phenomena
(e.g. pitch, loudness, sound localization), and visual deficiencies.
This faculty member will also teach a course for Psychology Majors
such as Sensation and Perception, Statistics, or Research Methods, or
other General Education courses such as General Psychology or Life-Span
Human Development.
An appropriate doctoral degree and teaching experience preferred.
Individuals who have completed all doctoral degree requirements except for
their dissertation will be considered. The successful applicant will be
expected to engage in some service activities related to General Education
and the Psychology curriculum. Opportunities to conduct research and
engage students in research will be available and encouraged.
We anticipate two permanent positions in this area of teaching to be
available starting in August 2001. The faculty member hired for this
position will be encouraged to apply for those positions.
