Tipsters:
New England Psychological Association is holding its annual meeting
October 21 - 22 at Bates College in Lewiston, ME. It would be great if I
could convince some other tipsters to attend. NEPA is small and
specializes in student papers. The quality of the student talks and
posters varies. The invited addresses are very good. Last year I heard
Stephen Ceci discussing his work on courtroom testimony. It's a great
conference for undergraduates - not as large or imposing as EPA, and it
doesn't try to compete with EPA. Historically, participants coming from
smaller North Eastern colleges (St. Anselem's, Stonehill, Keene State,
Bates College, Quinnipiac Colllege, and the like). This year Sarah
Boysen is giving a talk on "Chimp Cognition and Communication", Bonnie
Strickland has a talk entitled "Including the Other in Psychology" and
Linda Bartoshuk is doing "Supertasters and our search for the perfect
sensory scale." John Hogan is delivering a Psi Chi lecture on "London,
Leipzig, and a Little Vienna: Travels in Psychology."
Rooms in the area are $79, and the conference fee is only $20
(non-member) before Oct 2, and $25 (non-member) on-site. Rates for
students and members are less. It's not the biggest or most impressive
psychology conference, but it is unique. It's also not far from Canada.
Maybe we can have a tipsters get-together.
