Just wanted to share a story. I used the prism goggles in Intro for the
first time today. I had several students come up to the board and write an
animal word, then I had one more student do it but I handed him the goggles
to put on first. Watching him trip over desks and have trouble taking the
chalk from my hand demonstrated the difficulty he was having with the
sensory input, and the fact that he was able to complete the task
demonstrated his ability to use sensory information from other sources to
move around. Then I used the words that were written on the board in various
fonts, sizes, and orientations to illustrate feature matching, letter
recognition, word superiority effect, context effects, and other perceptual
concepts. Went over well. I couldn't get any volunteers to wear the goggles
all day to experience perceptual adaptation though!
