13th Southeastern Conference on the Teaching of Psychology February 16-17, 2001 The 13th annual Southeastern Conference on the Teaching of Psychology sponsored by the Kennesaw State University Department of Psychology will be held at the Northwest Marriott Hotel, Atlanta GA (10 miles north of downtown Atlanta on 1-75) on February 16-17, 2001. Keynote speeches by Pamela Scott-Johnson and Bill Buskist will address leadership roles assumed by teachers in and out of the classroom and characteristics of exemplary teachers, respectively. Concurrent sessions will focus on teaching techniques and issues in courses such as statistics, personality, developmental psychology, psychology and law, and introductory psychology. Additional sessions will address strategies for creating a teaching circle, methods for handling difficult student interactions, developing a service learning component in your curriculum, practical hints for effective mentoring, defining and preventing plagiarism, developing a departmental strategic plan, and creating connections between community and 4-year colleges. A poster session and teaching idea exchange is also scheduled for participants. An outstanding poster award is sponsored by the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, which provides the recipient with $500 to attend and present the poster at the next annual meeting of the American Psychological Association. The registration fee of $140 covers all meals and receptions during the conference. A special reduced conference rate of $90 is available for high school psychology teachers and graduate students. A block of rooms at the Marriott Northwest Hotel is available at the special conference rate of $81.
