I just left a faculty meeting in which our library representative discussed
an alarming development regarding the charges to libraries for PsychInfo
subscriptions. Our subscription is obtained through a state-wide
subscription that covers all libraries in the 10 universities in the
Florida State University System. This subscription rate is based on a
computation of expected numbers of users. APA has changed their formula
and is now using a head count of all university students and personnel
(including, it seems, custodial and landscaping staff as users of
PsychInfo) rather than traditional computations of student FTEs. One
consequence is that the Florida SUS is seeing a 125% increase in
subscription costs. At the present time, the SUS is threatening to cancel
the subscription to PsychInfo. As you can imagine, faculty at our
university are in an uproar. We are unusual in that our subscription goes
up for renewal in January (most schools get this in July).

Is anyone on TIPS aware of this change? (You might want to give your
libraries a warning if your subscription renews in July.) If so, what
action has your institution taken?
