I think other responders have mentioned this, but I think it important
enough to underscore - pay attention to what the letter requesting the
recommendation/review asks for. Here, for example, we request letters of
evaluation, not recommendation. Thus, comments from a "good friend" are
expected to be positive and would probably not be given substantial
weight.
