Louis:
In general, I stay out of any threads mentioning politics or religion (they
only get messy), but I must admit some degree of surprise, Louis. Your
assertion of people taking responsibility for their actions and the need
for the individuals in West Palm to be responsible enough to ASK for help
when confused (a point I agree with, incidentally), seems a bit more
stringent than your comments concerning students (since this IS a teaching
list, I thought I'd try to get the thread toward teaching). That is, you
generally emphasize the need for professors/instructors/teachers to reach
out to students, to make sure our measurement instruments (akin to ballots)
are clear and do not promote confusion. I also believe (and I may be wrong)
that you've suggested that certain exam performances might require
discounting if it appears the instrument (i.e., exam) may contain undue
measurement error.
This isn't meant to cast aspersions by any means. I just find your comments
a bit... surprising.
(But I wholeheartedly concur with your comments regarding the remarkable
avoidance of military intervention and anarchy; democracy seems to be
validated here despite the odd process it's taking).
