Hello:
I am looking for a video that depicts the playing cards experiment that
illustrates the concept of perception of incongruity. The experiment was
originally performed by Jerome S. Bruner and Leo Postman in 1949 (article
can be found at Christopher D. Green's Classics in the History of Psychology
http://www.yorku.ca/dept/psych/classics/Bruner/Cards/). The article
describes the experiment as follows: "Twenty-eight subjects, students at
Harvard and Radcliffe, were shown successively by tachistoscopic exposure
five different playing cards. From one to four of these cards were
incongruous -- color and suit were reversed. Order of presentation of normal
and incongruous cards was randomized. The normal and "trick" cards used were
the following."
I am trying to find any video that illustrates this experiment for one of
our library patrons. Any video titles that you can suggest will be
appreciated.
I am not a regular member of this listserv, but I am hoping you may have
some suggestions for me. I found your listserv highlighted on Hugh Foley's
website of Resources for Teaching Perception
http://www.skimore.edu/~hfoley/perception.htm
