Hello friends:

I am in a lazy "cut and paste" mood today. From my Blackboard:

Well, as I was reading the chapter on sensation and perception, I began to
think about occations in which people cut their finger, or hit their arm, why
is it that sometimes the pain is not felt right away?

Anyone ever heard of that?

And more (from a student email):

1) Is smoking cigarettes (excessive smoking) connected to extreme leg
cramps. My father has smoked for years and on one particular occassion
suffered to the point of collapsing from extreme leg cramps -- I could
literally see the knots in his legs -- I assumed it was from dehydration
because he had played a tennis tournament earlier that day.

(It makes sense to me that this sports-related problem might be exasperated
because nicotine is an ACh agonist, but I wanted to check with the biopsych
mavens anyway...)

2. What are the long term affects (to the brain) of pain killers such as
valium, vicodin and motrin?

3. Are doctors capable of performing their surgical duties while using paxil?

Thanks for any help you can give me in enlightening my little cherubs...
