Actually, the massive injuries sustained by the young girl were
inconsistent with the wrestling moves described by the defendant. The
evidence in the trial showed that the girl had been severely beaten for
a substantial period of time - repeated and severe blows. Thus, the
sentence was not for an accidental death resulting from the imitation of
moves viewed on television. However, a beating death is not as exciting
a headline as "wrestling death".
Clearly, the "why" of this child's behavior goes beyond simple modeling
of violent behavior on television.
