You know, I think we have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the
bath water. First, there is inherent in all religions a fundamental
problem: frail, fallible human beings are being "called" to carry out
angelic missions. Second, there is a vast difference between the
fundamental principle at the core of all religions which I will call the
"golden rule," and the inability of individuals to live up to and by that
principle. In other words, we have to separate Christian principles from
Christians, or any religious principles from its adherents. Just because
a hooded klansman has the symbol of Christiantiy over his heart, and
thinks and acts hatefully in the name of the prince of peace, does not in
any way repute the golden rule only the unruliness of the klansman.
One last point, while more harm has been done by man to man in the name of
religion, so has more good. We humans are a complex and complicated
specie, aren't we.
Make it a good day.
