Jim, let me follow up my sentence reply. Let's see. There is no devil in
Torah. The word is of medieval origin that means "to fall. And there is
no concept of innate evil in Torah. There is the concept of free-will
which means having the power and responsibility to make the right choice
or the wrong choice. The choice is based on whether to ignore and violate
or obey and follow the law.
As far as Satan us concerned, it is a Hebrew word. It means "tale
bearer." The tradition is that every act produces ripples or a record.
To the cabalists, every act produces a recorder. The satan is a tale
bearer of wrong choices. There are other tale bearers of right choices.
Tradition says that on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, all the tale
bearers report on your year's actions.
Make it a good day.
