I had commented about a statement Harry Harlow had made about the
worthlessness of research in a satirical article.

I think one would have to be a complete idiot (which, admittedly,
some, but not all animal activists are) not to be aware that
Harlow was saying that tongue-in-cheek. No, it's used as
deliberate misrepresentation for political purpose. The ends
justify the means.
And for justification of the "some" remark above, I give you
Ingrid Newkirk, the president of People for the Ethical Treatment
of Animals. She was recently quoted as saying about
foot-and-mouth disease, which has resulted in the deaths of
millions of animals and the financial ruin of many farmers, "I
openly hope that it comes here...It would be good for animals".
With friends like that, I think animals have something to worry
about. And it sure gives new meaning to the word "ethical" in the
name of her organization.
