Folks,
We recommend students going on to graduate school take 2 courses
beyond the usual stats/methods sequence.
1) A course in "experimental design" in our stats dept. For these
folks, experimental design means the design of math model to evaluate
experiments. This course takes a linear models approach and does
advanced ANOVA and multiple regression.
2) Our junior research seminar. This is an advanced methods course
that focuses on qualitative and quantitative approaches. The course
uses SPSS to introduce students to multiple regression, post-hoc
ANOVA analysis, etc. It also covers the "what is it for" level for
some advanced approaches (e.g. path analysis, MDS, cluster,
log-linear, etc.). I will be teaching this course in the spring, and
when I get a syllabus together, will gladly share it.
