(Second attempt to send this...)

All -
I see that there is a nice little review of the new book ("Learning
that Lasts") put out by our office once known as the Office of Research and
Evaluation in the latest issue of Psychological Science. Milt Hakel wrote
the review, the first half of which is really a description of my
institution rather than of the book itself. Incidentally, the one other book
referred to in the review ("How People Learn") is absolutely excellent - a
"must have", in my opinion (probably more so than our book, but don't tell
anyone I said so).

At the other end of the spectrum, I got a flyer today for a
conference on "brain-based learning". Yet another inane educational fad,
this time asking teachers to spend their time in the classroom thinking
about how to help Johnny grow more dendrites (insert rolling eyes icon
here).
