It is important to remember that Palestinians are not a homogeneous
groups. While I too saw the photos of Palestinians celebrating, I am
sure that there are many, many Palestinians who are shocked and
horrified by these events.
After looking at the message boards on Yahoo and Netscape, I am equally
sure that there are individuals of European descent within the United
States who are also celebrating these events. There are fanatics in
every group.
Please let us not start passing blame based on ethnic origin,
nationality, race, etc. Let us rather work towards constructive
actions. We can do this in many ways, such as I noted previously,
donating blood.
It is also important for us to help our students deal with their grief
and anger. As part of that, we should work to insure the safety,
welfare, and well-being of our international students and colleagues.
