Can't say I'm keen on questions like "what are
my office hours?" -- I just tell 'em to see the
posting (paper on my door, or print it from the
web). I am keen on quizzes about the outline
of course contents, because very often, I
think, students remember bits and pieces but
can't for the life of them recall the point of
what they remember or how it related to the
structure of the course. Last time I did any
school work to speak of was in April, but
I was then working on an idea about how to
get students to remember my outline (better if
it were their _own_ outline, maybe). The idea
was to match the outline to (in my case) names
and events in the history of psychology. The hope
is that the syllabus will become an organizational
structure for remembering stuff on exams.
Some fellow tipsters saw these quizzes -- nothing
new, yet, but I'm back in school again in January, so
will work on them some more before then:
