This past weekend I read the article by Menand in a recent issue of the
New Yorker, in which the author tries to make the case that psychiatry
isn't a science. I found the whole article puzzling, especially the
evidence that the author used in attempts to support the main points. If
it were a writing assignment for one of my courses, the article probably
would have earned a grade of D for poor organization, contradictory
statements, and failure to support claims with evidence.

Apparently there have been a few major media articles criticizing the
DSM and the American Psychiatric Association recently. Today, one of my
English colleagues sent me to link to a blog with the tongue-in-cheek
title of American Psychiatric Headquarters Seized by Giant English
Teachers!
http://www.psychiatrictimes.com/display/article/10168/1531614?CID=rss. I
don't know whether it counts as satire? Parody? Whatever - it's pretty
funny!
