Eli Lilly Hit By $75 Million 'Brink's Pill Heist' http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=124761278&ft=1&f=10 01
"The pills - stolen from the pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly & Co. in quantities big enough to fill a tractor-trailer - are believed to be destined for the black market, perhaps overseas." "Edward Sagebiel, a spokesman for Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly, put the wholesale value of the drugs at $75 million and said they included the antidepressants Prozac and Cymbalta and the anti-psychotic Zyprexa. No narcotics or other painkillers were in the warehouse, he said." I can't decide if I'm surprised or not. Even if they sold them for a 1/3 of their value on the black market, they'd still pull in $25 million (minus expenses, such as the cost of ropes). Seems like they'd get more for narcotics, but then the narcotics are probably more tightly guarded. On a more sobering note, it speaks to the demand that's been created for psychoactive medication. -- Sue Frantz <http://flightline.highline.edu/sfrantz/> Highline Community College Psychology, Coordinator Des Moines, WA 206.878.3710 x3404 [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> Office of Teaching Resources in Psychology, Associate Director Teaching of Psychology Idea Exchange (ToPIX) APA Division 2: Society for the Teaching of Psychology <http://teachpsych.org/otrp/syllabi/syllabi.php> APA's p...@cc Committee <http://www.apa.org/ed/pcue/ptatcchome.html> --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: [email protected].
